CURRENT PROJECTS
Like you, I love urban wildlife. I love photographing it, seeing it, and being around others who share this passion.
Unfortunately, the animals in our cities don’t get the attention they deserve. Magazines, wildlife series, and natural history museums might give the occasional nod to urban wildlife, but I feel they deserve a much larger platform.
I want to create and amplify stories of urban wildlife. We protect what we love, and conservation starts by helping people fall in love with what needs protecting. Below are a few of the urban wildlife projects I’m involved in. I will do my best to keep this list updated, but you can always follow along in real time on my Instagram account.
These projects are supported by grants, media outlets, private contributions, and print sales.
HIDDEN HIGHWAYS
Hidden Highways is a remarkable project that documents how animals navigate our cities. Urban wildlife moves about our cities in unique and surprising ways. By using photography and video to better understand how animals move across the urban landscape, I hope this project can help inform and inspire future urban design.
POISON CITY
Rodenticides are a major problem for urban wildlife. The rats and mice that consume the poisons left out at restaurants, businesses, and homes often find their way to wild spaces before the poisons kill them. When these rodents are consumed by their natural predators—such as birds, coyotes, foxes, dogs, and cats—the poisons are passed on, leading to serious illness or death. These poisons move through the ecosystem and have a profoundly dangerous influence on urban ecology. I have been photographing the animals affected by these poisons in an effort to change our thinking around the use of rodenticides.
ALL THE ANIMALS!
Photography is a powerful tool for inspiring change. As part of an ongoing project, I regularly provide urban wildlife photos and videos to conservation organizations nationally and internationally.
